Nehiyawetan[dvd] : feast / created & produced by Loretta Todd.

Todd, Loretta. (Added Author). Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. (Added Author).

Summary:

Nehiyawetan combines reality television with educational entertainment to create a live-action, on-location series that follows Aboriginal children (ages 5-7) as they learn to speak Cree in the city. In each episode, the children go on adventures with their Cree teacher. Along the way, they meet interesting people, explore interesting places, sing songs, play games and tell stories. Each adventure gives the children the opportunity to learn and practice the Cree words and phrases of the day. The series reinforces language skills, promotes language retention, offers a Cree perspective of the world and smart choices about living in the city. Nehiyawetan encourages confidence in learning a language and is intended to enhance, not duplicate, classroom or home learning of the Cree language. Nehiyawetan reinforces language skills, promotes language retention, offers children a Cree perspective of the world and smart choices about living in the city. Speaking a language in everyday settings is critical to retaining and restoring our languages. Positive, fun, entertaining television programming that uses Aboriginal languages in the city is one aspect of achieving this. The children in the series represent the many faces of Aboriginal children who live in urban environments and want to know their language and culture and see them reflect in their lives. Join our cast Kiyano, Grace, and Kai on their fun-filled adventures as they learn Cree with their teacher Josephine.
Episode 6. Let's eat, feast, and give thanks with Josephine, Kai, and Kayla, as they celebrate the end of another great year! All are welcomed in the feast at the Kla-how-eva Centre in Surrey B.C. filled with laughing and singing with the Children of the Rainbow. Guest performer, Art Napoleon shares with us all the fun of feasting and of course, giving thanks for feast. Hai hai everyone!
